Application of Polymeric Nano-Materials in Management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Abstract: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is an umbrella term used to describe disorders that involve Crohn’s disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC) and pouchitis. The disease occurrence is more prevalent in the working group population which not only hampers the well being of an individual but also has negative economical impact on society. The current drug regime used therapy is very costly owing to the chronic nature of the disease leading to several side effects. The condition gets more aggravated due to the lower c… Show more

“…80 A controlled-release system, in such cases, provides an ideal strategy to maintain the frequency and concentration of drug release. 73,[81][82][83] For instance, high-water content hydrogel, a copolymer with a cross-linked network, has high biocompatibility with its physical similarity to biological tissues. 84 Hydrogels are proven effective in loading hydrophilic drugs and protecting them from being desaturated or aggregated.…”

“…Nanotechnology has opened up a new way to the development of novel and efficiently organized nanomaterials with the capability of enhanced performance in screening, detection, and treatment of CRC cancer along with other types of tumors (Gulbake et al, 2016;Bray et al, 2019). The role of nanotechnology interventions to CRC includes the nanomaterialbased screening of tumors, customization of targeted drug delivery systems, and advanced treatment modalities (Upendra et al, 2016;Minakshi et al, 2017;Minakshi et al, 2018;Minakshi et al, 2020). Currently, nanotechnologies have found worldwide consideration due to their capability to improve existing standards and methods for the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of CRC.…”
