“…The POTS is a tool to predict prognosis and visual outcomes regarding eye injuries in the pediatric population (3). Several studies have demonstrated that it is a reliable prognostic scoring system in pediatric globe injury (36,37). Similar to these aforementioned studies, we found that VA and POTS scores were correlated in children with visual acuity of 0.1 and above at the final visit.…”

“…Kuhn et al designed the OTS to determine the potential final visual outcome in patients with eye injury (35). Even though it has been a substantial tool to evaluate the prognosis of VA in ocular trauma, some studies revealed its limited predictive efficacy in pediatric ocular injury (36). In addition, OTS requires the evaluation of relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD), which is difficult to assess especially in children.…”

“…In addition, open glob injuries that cause serious losses in vision may negatively affect the mental health of the child and family and cause psychological trauma. 1,[13][14][15][16] The main purpose here should be examining the causes of trauma, to raise the parents' awareness and the precautions, even if they want to protect their children as much as possible, and thus to prevent trauma. In our retrospective study, the epidemiological factors and risk groups that cause OGI in our region, and the factors affecting the prognosis were evaluated.…”

“…According to the Birmingham Eye Trauma Terminology [ 15 ], open-globe injuries can be differentiated into two classes: the first class includes penetrating trauma caused by sharp objects, such as scissors, knives, and needles; the second class includes blunt force trauma caused by fists, hits, falls, fireworks explosions, balls, etc. Depending on the Open Trauma Score (OTS) [ 16 ], eye injuries can be classified into three zones on the basis of the wound location: Zone I includes injuries that the open wounds of the eyeball are isolated to the cornea or corneoscleral limbus; Zone II includes injuries that the wound involve the anterior 5 mm of the sclera; and Zone III includes injuries in which full-thickness wounds extend into the sclera more than 5 mm posterior to the corneoscleral limbus.…”
