Application of organic waste composts when producing forest planting material

Abstract: Most seedlings and saplings of woody plants in the Russian Federation are produced in the open ground in forest nurseries. In order to produce high quality planting material it is necessary to support and preserve soil fertility, which can be obtained by using organic wastes and organic-based fertilizers. Our research is aimed at the assessment of the influence of non-conventional organic fertilizers on fertility of podzols and on the growth rate of seedlings and saplings of woody plants in f… Show more

“…Currently, the problem of processing industrial waste from various types of industries is high on the agenda. In administrative forestry enterprises, which own huge reserves of forest products, huge amounts of wood waste accumulates in felling areas and on the territories of timber processing enterprises [13]. In the process of logging, only about 60% of the timber is used.…”

“…The composting of crop residues is a tool for solving this problem. Composting or fermentation of agricultural organic waste is an important technique in modern agricultural Agronomy 2023, 13, 2521 2 of 15 technologies [4][5][6]. Biothermal transformation of organic material occurs during composting resulting in products enriched with humus and available forms of nutrients, with a reduced ratio of carbon (C) to nitrogen (N).…”
