Application of novel hybrid model for land subsidence susceptibility mapping

Abstract: Land subsidence (LS) is one of the challenging geo‐hazards in several regions of the world that is mainly caused by the overexploitation of groundwater and subsequent collapse of underground cavities. The prediction of LS is difficult due to limitations in monitoring, proper surveys, and knowledge related to the functioning and behaviour of the phenomenon. The application of remote sensing (RS) and global positioning system (GPS) for the proper location identification of LS in the ground and its implementation… Show more

“…Risk evaluations have been performed by several researchers using GIS (Yuan, Ying, et al, 2018). It may be used for a variety of applications, including historical reflection and evolution, environmental change, hazard early warning and analysis of geophysical risks and it significantly increases the search and reading rates of large datasets (Carby, 2014; Jamir et al, 2022; Shen et al, 2022; Xu et al, 2022).…”

“…Monitors can use of multi-spectral RS images facilitates mine environmental monitoring, including the monitoring of soil erosion, water pollution, and vegetation conditions. RS technology serves as benchmark data for mine surveying, providing the necessary input data for subsequent GIS analyses [16] . The high spatial and temporal resolution, along with automated analysis methods, significantly enhance measurement efficiency and accuracy.…”

“…ML techniques are increasingly proficient at modelling LS occurrences and have broad applications in LSSM. Shen et al (2023) compare the performances of single and hybrid ML models in predicting and mapping LS-susceptible areas. The gradient-boosting machine-evolutionary genetic algorithm (GBM-EG) was adopted for LS assessment in comparison to three commonly used benchmark algorithms, namely random forest, artificial neural networks, and alternating decision tree.…”
