Application of non-contact magnetic corresponding on the detection for natural gas pipeline

Abstract: This study examined natural gas pipeline by the non-contact magnetic corresponding. To confirm the reliability for the examination of natural gas pipelines by non-contact magnetic corresponding, three abnormal nodes were detected by the appearance inspection and ultrasonic testing. The results suggested that the grade of abnormal nodes by non-contact magnetic corresponding were not absolutely agree with that of the corrosion by ultrasonic testing. However, there was an obvious relevance between the comprehensi… Show more

“…Traditional non-destructive testing methods (NDT) for pipeline corrosion include visual inspection, magnetic flux leakage detection, eddy current detection, ultrasonic tomography, and X-ray technology [ 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ]. Visual inspection relies on the expertise of inspectors, and thus, its reliability of results is not guaranteed.…”

“…It has great application prospects in internal stress detection of pipelines [ 16 ]. This technology has been widely used to detect pipeline defects [ 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 ]. Under internal pressure and external loading of oil and gas pipelines, abnormal stress distribution may occur at the microcracks of welded pipelines.…”

“…The corrosion inspection methods in pipelines mainly include: magnetic flux leakage method, eddy current measurement method, ultrasonic method, percussion method, among others [3]. The above mentioned non-destructive test techniques usually inspect the pipeline at a fixed time interval, and it is difficult to realize real-time monitoring of the pipeline.…”
