A novel bisazo 5-[5-(4,6-dioxo-2-thioxo-hexahydro-pyrimidin-5ylazo)-naphthalen-1-ylazo]-2-mercapto-1H-pyrimidine-4,6-dione (H 4 L) ligand has been synthesized from diazotization coupling between naphthalene-1,5diamine and 2-thiobarbituric acid. Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), and Fe(III) chelates were prepared. All prepared compounds were characterized by different techniques. The azo groups did not participate in chelation according to the infrared spectra, whereas the thioamide group did participate. The azo dye ligand coordinated with all metallic ions in a neutral−keto−thiol structure and behaved as a bi-and tridentate moiety. Zinc, manganese, and iron chelates had an octahedral structure, while nickel and cobalt chelates had a tetrahedral structure, but the copper chelate had a square pyramidal geometry. The thermal behavior of all prepared compounds was investigated and thermokinetic parameters were also discussed. X-ray diffraction (XRD) data reflected that Fe(III) and Zn(II) complexes were crystalline while the Cu(II) complex was amorphous. Calcination of the Fe(III) complex at 600 °C yielded a nanosized Fe 2 O 3 crystalline phase, elucidated by XRD and transmission electron microscope. The novel azo dye and some of its chelates were tested against HepG-2. The Fe 2 O 3 nanooxide showed remarkable activity against the HepG-2 cell line rather than its precursor Fe(III) complex. Co(II) had a higher antioxidant activity than the other investigated complexes. In both activities, the Cu(II) complex did not show any activity. Molecular modeling and some theoretical studies were validated, and the experimental results were interpreted.

The aim of this research work was to develop triazine based dendrimer of salicylic acid with increased antibacterial activity. Surface modification of dendrimer of generation 3 was performed by conjugation with polyethylene glycol (PEG). The amount of drug encapsulated in dendrimer was determined by the separation of drug loaded dendrimer from the suspension containing free drug by centrifugation. The suspension obtained after solvent evaporation was centrifuged. The amount of free drug in the supernatant was measured by UV spectrophotometer. The amount of drug entrapped into dendrimer was calculated as the difference between the drug used for formulation and the amount of drug in supernatant. Antibacterial activity shows promising results as prepared dendrimer drug conjugate shows better results with only 36.05 % entrapped drug as compared to standard drug. 36.05 % entrapped drug gives results more than as compared to standard drug sample. Results reveals that if we assume that the standard drug is completely entrapped, there will be approximately 2.5 fold increase in antibacterial activity. This study also reveals that salicylic acid and prepared dendrimer drug conjugates show better activity for S. aureus i.e. for gram positive bacteria.

The urge of environmental friendly techniques in textile processing is gaining much attention due to high risks of effluent load causing eco-imbalance. For the present study, the cotton fabric and Reactive Violet H3R dye solution were treated with microwave radiation for 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10 min. at different powers (low, medium & high).Dyeing was performed using un-irradiated (NRC) and irradiated cotton (RC) with un-irradiated (NRS) and irradiated dye solution (RS). Different dyeing parameters were optimized and ISO standard methods for color fastness were employed to rate the color change before and after irradiation. It is found that microwave irradiation for 8 min. at high power has given good colour strength. When 60 mL irradiated dye solution of 7.5 pH containing 8 g/L of salt as exhausting agent is used to dye irradiated fabric at 60 o C for 55 min. ISO standards for colorfastness employed at various shades have shown that microwave irradiation has improved the rating of fastness properties. It is concluded that microwave irradiation has a promising potential to improve the color strength and dyeing properties under mild conditions.
