Application of MMICs in communication satellites

Abstract

MMICs are being widely used in flight applications at Astro Space. Proper selection of MMIC technology, commonality of MMICs in various boxes, development of generic boxes, and development of strategic relationships with vendors has resulted in cost savings due to weight and materiauabor reductions. MESFET and P H E W technology has primarily been used for attenuators, linearizers, limiters and amplifiers, covering 600 MHz (3.6 GHz to 4.2 GHz) at C-Band and 1.8 GHz (10.95 GHz to 12.75 GHz) at Ku-Band, up to medium power (+23 dBm) level.
