Application of Metal-Organic Frameworks in Gas Pre-concentration, Pre-separation and Detection

Abstract

Gas separation and detection technology is closely related to people's daily production and life. With the emergence of various detection equipment, it has made remarkable progress in recent decades. Gas sensing materials play an important role in the process of gas separation and detection. Compared with traditional gas sensing materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), as a new type of porous materials, has ultra-large surface area, extremely high porosity, regular pore structure and adjustable pore size. These unique advantages make MOFs particularly suitable as promising candidates for the gas pre-concentration, pre-separation and detection, so as to realize the collection and enhancement of low concentration gas, the separation of complex gas mixtures, and the reliable detection of trace target gases. The detection ability and separation efficiency are greatly improved eventually. Therefore, MOFs are expected to surpass the traditional materials, and their application in gas separation and detection deserves the attention of both academia and industry. Keywords gas detection; metal-organic frameworks; gas preconcentrator; gas chromatographic column; gas sensor 1 引言 人类对大自然中气味的探索由来已久, 最新的研究 结果显示人的嗅觉系统可以分辨出超过一万亿种不同 的气味组合 [1] . 而随着科学研究的快速发展以及检测技 术的不断进步, 出现了大量可用于气体分析的新型装 置, 使人们实现了从仅能对气味进行简单的定性区分到 可以定量地检测出复杂气体混合物中各种组分含量的 突破. 基于这些检测装置, 在过去的几十年里, 气体检 测技术已经成为了与工业制造、农业生产、环境监测、 医学诊断、食品安全以及法医鉴定等许多研究领域息息 相关的重要研究方向 [2][3][4][5] .目前, 常见的气体分析系统中的核心部件包括气体 预富集器、 气相色谱柱和气体传感器 [4] . 其中, 气体预富 集器内填充了具有很强的气体吸附能力的富集材料, 可 以在一段时间内吸附大量的被测气体, 随后通过热脱附 的方式在短时间内释放出这些气体分子, 从而将低浓度 的目标气体浓缩至可被后续传感器检测到的浓度 [6][7][8] . 而气相色谱柱针对的是复杂的气体混合物, 利用混合气 体中不同组分与色谱柱固定相之间相互作用力的差异, 实现各种气体的逐一分离 [9][10][11][12] . 气体传感器通过检测涂 覆在其表面的敏感膜与气体分子发生相互作用后产生 的光学、电学或其他材料固有性质的变化, 并将这些变 化转换为可测量的电信号, 从而实现被测气体种类和浓 度的检测 [13][14][15] . 近些年来, 随着微加工技术的突破, 出 现了灵敏度高、体积小、功耗低的微型气体预富集器 (micro preconcentrator, μPC) [16][17][18] 、 微 型 气 相 色 谱 柱 (micro gas chromatography, μGC) [19][20][21] 和微型气体传感 器 [22][23] , 以及由它们构成的便携式气体检测系统 [24][25][26][27][28] . 这些小型化装置的出现, 使得气体检测过程不仅限于实
