Application of machine learning algorithm in predicting distant metastasis of T1 gastric cancer

Abstract: Distant metastasis (DM) is relatively uncommon in T1 stage gastric cancer (GC). The aim of this study was to develop and validate a predictive model for DM in stage T1 GC using machine learning (ML) algorithms. Patients with stage T1 GC from 2010 to 2017 were screened from the public Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database. Meanwhile, we collected patients with stage T1 GC admitted to the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from 201… Show more

“…The evolution of AI, particularly with the integration of ML, has opened new possibilities in oncology, revolutionizing every facet of cancer care. It has significantly enhanced cancer diagnosis [90][91][92][93], prognosis [94][95][96][97][98], and the prediction of metastasis [99][100][101].…”

“…Recently, machine learning algorithms have played an important role in evaluating the metastasis and prognosis of malignant tumors. In gastric cancer, the literature reported seven machine learning algorithms to predict distant metastasis models, including logistic regression, random forest (RF), least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression, support vector machine, k-nearest neighbor, naive Bayes model, and artificial neural network (8). David's research used 11 machine learning algorithms to predict the short-and longterm survival probability of CRC patients (9).…”
