Application of lean manufacturing in construction management

Abstract: The construction industry in recent decades has been facing internal and external pressures, such as financial crisis, industry competitiveness and increased importance of quality required by the client. Because it is a sector, which has a low level of productivity, and high levels of waste, both with materials such as with labor, it is necessary to search for new management practices and production control. “…The score of all these companies together was 1067.7, reaching a Ra of 6.59, considered low readiness level, while it was expected that these companies, for being the largest in Brazil, could achieve a medium level score of readiness. “…As it is a sector with a low level of productivity and high levels of waste, it is necessary to seek new management and production control practices. Nevertheless, CI professionals are unaware of the main technologies of C4.0 or do not know many applications for them (Aureliano et al, 2019;Temidayo et al, 2020). Initially this study identified 16 technologies linked to I4.0 in the academic literature, but as three did not present any application in construction (machine to machine, Internet of Services (IoS) and QR-Code), this study has considered only the remaining 13, presented in Section 2.4.…”
