Replacing the aqueous coagulation bath with an alcoholic one during spinning cellulose fibers (films) from solutions in N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide leads to a radical restructuring of the hydrogen bonds net of cellulose and, as a result, to a change in the structure and properties of the resulting material. By the method of optical interferometry, it was possible to identify the intrinsic features of the interaction of the solvent and isomeric alcohols and to construct phase diagrams of binary systems describing the crystalline equilibrium. Knowledge of the phase states of the system at different temperatures renders it possible to exclude the process of solvent crystallization and conduct the spinning in pseudo-homogeneous conditions. The structure and morphology of samples were studied using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy methods for a specific coagulant. When the solution under certain conditions is coagulated at contact with alcohol, the solvent may be in a glassy state, whereas, when at coagulation in water, an amorphous-crystalline structure is formed. The structural features of cellulose films obtained by coagulation of solutions with water and alcohols help to select potential engineering or functional materials (textile, packaging, membranes, etc.), in which their qualities will manifest to the best extent.

Structure and properties of polymer compositions based on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) filled epoxy matrix containing fluorosilicone copolymers as additives is discussed. Electrical conductivity and dielectric (microwave) permittivity of the composites can be varied by approximately one order of magnitude without changing the CNT concentration, by careful selection of the additive type and concentration. The mutual solubility of the modifiers and epoxy is a key factor determining both rheological properties of the uncured compositions and electrical properties of cured CNT-nanocomposites. CNT-nanocomposites modified with aminofunctional (i.e., epoxy crosslinkable) copolymers demonstrate improved electrical conductivity values at increased additive concentration, connected with the formation of specific segregated microstructure. Fluorosilicone additives added in a specific amount also allow for a decrease of the viscosity of uncured epoxy CNT-nanocomposites, improving their processability.

Dispersion of Polyethylene Glycol in Perfluorodecalin for Liquid Phase Fluorination

This work aims to obtain the dispersions based on polyethylene glycols (PEGs) of various molecular masses (MM) and perfluorodecalin (PFD) for subsequent direct fluorination. The solubility of the components was estimated using laser interferometry and differential scanning calorimetry, and it was shown that PEGs with different MM are not highly compatible with PFD. The dispersions were prepared during sonication. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) analysis indicated that MMs almost did not change in this process. While the sonication of PEG-PFD, there is a formation of dispersion with the particle sizes distribution in a range of 0.4‒2 μm depending on the MM of PEG. The dispersion is metastable for several hours, even though its stability was significantly affected by additional bubbling with the gas flow. Moreover, the dispersions with a solid PEG phase (MM > 600 Da) were subjected to a smaller change compared to a liquid one (MM < 600 Da). The results of this research shed light on the applicability of the ultrasonic preparation of PEGs in PFD for liquid-phase fluorination with obtaining perfluorinated polyether of target MM.
