Abstract: The Bonga field located offshore Nigeria in OML 118, has produced more than 275 MMstb in the last 4 years. Production rates from 16 subsea high rate oil producer wells from 5 different manifolds are being sustained by waterflooding that was implemented from the onset of production. The North Kuwait Jurassic Gas (NKJG) reservoirs are currently under development by KOC. The fractured carbonate reservoirs contain gas condensate and volatile oil at pressures up to 11,500 psi with 2.9% H2S and 1.5% CO2. Currently around 20 active wells are producing to an Early Production Facility (EPF-50) that falls short of achieving the desired capacity and capability to handle production efficiently. To understand wells and field performance, an integrated system model comprising of wells, flow line and gathering system separator network was created. The setting up a model and its use is an integral subset of WRFM (Wells, Reservoir and Facilities Management) process that is essential for effectively managing the current asset and for further field development. The application of the model is to be an enabler for wider implementation of the WRFM process in KOC and a tool to meet the following objectives: It should closely match the EPF-50 throughputIt should identify problem wellsIt should identify well intervention and data gathering opportunitiesIt should be a tool for training engineers on nodal analysis and WRFMIt can be used for back allocationIt could be used to benchmark against any existing models The model has shown close approximation with field metered production and is already achieving many of its desired objectives. This paper describes the use of integrated nodal analysis model to generate data gathering and well intervention opportunities not only to operate the facilities efficiently but understand well and reservoir behavior for input to full field development plan.

This paper investigates the best practices and lessons learned for both the development and calibration methods of integrated production models. Consequently, this allowed for the successful application of Integrated Production Modeling (IPM) to large scale and complex petroleum production systems in the Cooper Basin, Australia. The potential for calibrated integrated production models to aid the assessment of production system development, forecasting, operational surveillance and optimization opportunities (flow assurance, integrity considerations, well performance/intervention, incremental approaches to development and back out/pressures) supported the need for an optimum (quality versus resource allocated) and innovative development procedure. A structured workflow for developing and calibrating the integrated production models is presented which allows for an improved ability to create and operate such models. The key development components, and for which illustrative and detailed workflows are presented, are: (1) development of reservoir model, (2) development of required well models, (3) development of required surface facility model and (4) the overall calibration of the integrated production model. Detailed within this paper is the extensive theoretical analysis which was mandatory in determining the use of the most suitable parameters which included vertical lift performance (VLP) correlations, flowline correlations, relative permeability curves (generation and alternatives), inflow performance relationship (IPR), water influx models, micro-string implications and all related considerations and assumptions. The paper emphasizes the trade-off between the required outputs from the application of the integrated production models and the available resources and period of development. The value of information is also highlighted through the importance of data collection and preparation procedures, both technical (pressure and fluid) and organizational (procedures). Furthermore, engineering decisions were found to significantly dictate the accuracy and efficiency of the implemented development process and workflows, in particular related to average reservoir properties, cyclic well behavior and the history matching of system pressures and flow rates within the calibration process. The considerations have been supported by relevant examples throughout the paper.

IPSM Plays Key Role in Maximising Oil Production and Minimising Gas Flare in the Re-opening of A Swamp Field in Niger Delta

FEDA field is a medium-sized, step faulted anticline located in the coastal swamp area of the Niger Delta. The field is located about 70km south-west of Port Harcourt, Nigeria and has produced approximately 126MMstb of oil and 127Bscf of associated gas. The field has been developed with 9 wells (18 strings) with one well abandoned. Production from the wells is maintained by natural flow supported by a strong aquifer drive. The field was shut down for about 5years between 2008 and 2013 due to integrity issues with the trunk line. As at 2008 before the field was shut down, it produced 4.8Mbopd from 3 wells (5 strings). In 2010, a new trunk-line was commissioned which led to the re-opening of all the fields in the Swamp area including FEDA. However, there were various challenges that needed to be addressed before the flow station could be re-opened. One of such issues was the availability of gas to run the Low-Pressure, (LP) compressor, given its turn-down volume and due to restriction placed by the new flares-down policy being championed by SPDC. In order to solve this problem, an Integration Production System Model (IPSM) was constructed. The model was calibrated ensuring accurate split between low pressure and high pressure gas streams which is not often considered in conventional IPSM analysis. The second issue was to consider the best scenario that would lead to optimum net oil production with the least volume of flared gas during compressor downtime in order to minimize production deferment. The key outcome of the project is that accurate calibration of IPSM model can unlock asset deliverables and guide operations towards optimum oil production. This paper presents the results of an innovative use of the PETEX IPM to determine the accurate volume of low-pressure gas for re-start of an oil flow station in Niger Delta. The objective was to ensure that produced gas was not flared and that the volume of associated gas would be sufficient to operate the compression facility efficiently.
