Vet. arhiv 88, 673-686, 2018. aBStraCt The aim of the study was to investigate the efficiency of feed supplementation with dried calendula (C. officinalis), dandelion (T. officinale) and marigold (T. erecta) flowers, as well as dried basil (O. basilicum 'Genovese') leaves on the kinetics of the total leukocytes, helper and cytotoxic T lymphocytes, and B lymphocytes in peripheral blood, as well as on intestinal excretion of Escherichia coli in laying hens. Laying hens of Tetra SL line, aged 25 weeks, were used in the study. The animals were divided into nine groups of 15 birds. The laying hens were fed common feed with the addition of 1% (10 g/kg) and 3% (30 g/kg) chopped flowers or leaves of the above mentioned herbs. The immunomodulatory and antimicrobial effects of medicinal herbs in laying hens were estimated by the above mentioned parameters determined at the beginning of the experiment and on day 14 and day 28 of the study, i.e. at the birds' ages of 25, 27 and 29 weeks. The study results showed that the addition of chopped calendula and dandelion flowers to laying hen feed stimulated proliferation of total leukocytes as well as T and B lymphocytes, particularly in the groups receiving 3% chopped herbs (P<0.01). All study herbs were found to have antimicrobial activity. The results obtained definitely confirm the favorable impact of adding herbs to hen feed because of their antimicrobial and immunostimulatory effects. Phytogenic feed additives exert favourable effects, however, knowledge of their use in poultry feed is still inadequate, thus requiring additional research. It was concluded that phytobiotics might be combined with other feed additives such as probiotics or prebiotics, in order to attain better results in poultry production.

BACKGROUND The livestock industry requires high‐quality products, as well as improved productivity. There have been many studies regarding the utilization of feed additives aiming to increase productivity, enhance immune functions and prevent infectious diseases in livestock. Biofunctional feed additives would be beneficial not only for animal health, but also for consumers. In the present study, we utilized root and byproduct (stem and leaf) powders of Angelica gigas Nakai (AGN, Korean Danggui) as feed additives and examined the deposition of biofunctional compounds, such as decursin and decursinol angelate, into egg white and yolk. RESULTS We optimized the detection system for decursin and decursinol angelate, and determined the amounts of decursin and decursinol angelate derived from AGN byproducts (stem and leaf) as well as root. In Experiment 1, laying hens were fed with the dried AGN root powder and the effective compounds were detected in egg white and yolk. Subsequently, in Experiment 2, we examined AGN byproducts as an alternative feeding supplement. Additionally, biochemical parameters were analyzed to evaluate changes in the health of the hens by feeding AGN root powder. The results obtained indicated that decursin and decursinol angelate were stably transferred into egg white and yolk by feeding AGN byproducts as well as root. Intriguingly, plasma cholesterol levels were significantly decreased in a dose‐dependent manner, and those of interleukin‐1β, as an immune‐related biomarker, were considerably increased in the treated hens. CONCLUSION These results indicated that AGN root and byproducts (stem and leaf) could be utilized for the production of value‐added eggs and improving the health of hens in the poultry industry. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry

Cloud computing is the utilization of computer resources i.e. hardware and software which are delivered as service over a network. It delivers infrastructure, platform and software (applications) as services, which are made available to consumers. It is platform that offer high performance computation capability and managed by individual organization. Cloud provides use of virtualization technologies combine with self-service. In this paper we introduce different types of cloud computing deployment models and architecture. This paper describes the challenges in cloud computing and its security threats. Different types of cloud computing deployment models, viz. private, public, hybrid and community clouds are discussed. In this paper we also discussed the different technologies and its applications used for cloud computing.
