Ukraine is characterised by active natural hazards processes within different structural, tectonic and landscape zones. In Middle Dnieper basin region mass movement processes have great impact on people's livelihoods and infrastructure. These processes occur on the slopes with different geological structure. The determining causes include lithologic and stratigraphic conditions, hydrogeological regime, structural and textural peculiarities of rocks and the geomorphology of the slopes. Landslide inventory database has been developed based on long-term observations of more than 400 landslides and landslide-prone areas. This paper takes efforts forward by combining different geological and geophysical methods to advance the current understanding of landslide phenomena and contributing towards a better informed assessment of landslide hazard and risk. The developed methodology is implemented in a test sites of Kyiv region, covering an area of 18.3 km 2 situated in the Middle Dnieper basin. Electrical Resistivity Tomography, Self-Potential and Infrared Thermography techniques were employed to investigate the lithostratigraphic sequences, the geometry of landslide body and potential mass movement. The results presented here confirm the potential of using an integrated approach that combines different field data to better plan mitigation activities and measures for the effective land management. This study will be useful in increasing the safety aspects of the infrastructures and lives and also for planning of research and developmental activities.

The paper discusses the details of the application of geophysical research methods in the study of the landslide areas of the right bank of the Dnieper River within the forest-steppe zone of Ukraine. Geological and geophysical models of landslides are given. The specific tasks that are posed in studies of landslides were highlighted. There are three stages in studies of landslides which were defined: reconnaissance-methodological, detailed and monitoring. Also, sets of geophysical methods for these stages were designated. It is emphasized that the rational set of geophysical methods in the study of landslide processes is determined for each individual natural environment, taking into account: the possibility of performing field studies by a specific geophysical method on the area; the presence of differentiation of rocks by physical properties, that are used by the specific geophysical method; economic efficiency of application of the geophysical method. As an example, we described some of the results of geophysical studies, which were carried outon exemplary landslidesites onthe right bank of the Dnieper River within the forest-steppe zone of Ukraine near the Trypillia thermal power plant.

The article is dedicated to using of thegeophysical study of flooding of urban conglomerates areas. The studies were performed within the framework of three stages of exploration of flooding area:reconnaissance-methodical, detailed and monitored ones. The most effective principles of the geophysical mapping of flooding area with geoelectrical horizontal section in depth, creation of geological and geophysical model of the upper part of the section are described. This approach made an assessment tool for classification of the flooding-prone urban areas (on example of flooding area of the Expocenter of Ukraine territory, Kyiv). It is important to note that there is no universal set of geophysical methods for the study of flooding of urban area. This point must be taken into account when choosing the proper geophysical method, elimination of the effects of physical differentiation of soils and economic efficiency of the chosen complex of geophysical methods.
