“…Three sets of free boundary conditions were tested: -Free boundary condition FC1 [20]-The gradients for all the variables ø at the boundary were set to zero, i.e. the flow variable 0 at intersection of the ith and jth grid lines (denoted by 0(ij) as in Figure 1) was given by: …”

“…OpenFOAM Ò was recently successfully used for the modeling of compressible flows using the PISO algorithms at any Mach number, e.g., see Xisto et al (2012) and Payri et al (2015). While the PISO approach was formulated for combustion processes (e.g., Issa et al, 1991;Chow and Fong, 1993) the application to the wide range of time and length scales relevant to aerosol formation pose new challenges to the PISO framework that are considered here. We integrate well-known Euler-Euler formulations for the aerosol component of the model and adopt in addition the MUSCL TVD scheme to handle unphysical oscillations that may arise near sharp nucleation fronts.…”

“…There had been lots of works on hollow-cone spray with large droplet discharged by sprinkler system. Other than experimental studies, the interaction of water spray with hot smoke layer has also been simulated using field models [6][7][8][9] and zone models [10][11][12][13][14][15]. Relatively, there are not so many works on solid-cone water sprays with small droplet discharged from WMFSS, apart from recent numerical simulations using zone models on both types of water sprays [13][14][15].…”
