Application of Endo-β-1,4,d-mannanase and Cellulase for the Release of Mannooligosaccharides from Steam-Pretreated Spent Coffee Ground

Abstract: Spent coffee ground (SCG), a present waste stream from instant coffee production, represents a potential feedstock for mannooligosaccharides (MOS) production. MOS can be used in nutraceutical products for humans/animals or added to instant coffee, increasing process yield and improving product health properties. The SCG was evaluated for MOS production by steam pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis with a recombinant mannanase and a commercial cellulase cocktail (Acremonium, Bioshigen Co. Ltd, Japan). The mann… Show more

“…The diverse industrial applications of β-mannanases include de-inking paper waste, clarifying fruit juices, upgrading feed, fodder, and fibers, and saccharifying plant biomass. The novel β-mannanase described herein should be of interest to the food and pulp industries and to studies of the conversion technology of lignocellulosic biomass ( 39 ).…”

“…A robust enzymatic cocktail is fundamentals for application such as biomass conversion into high added products (Chiyanzu et al, 2014). Moreover, combination of different enzymes is positive, improving the cocktail application allowing for example hemicellulases enzymes uses (Freitas et al, 2020;Bueno et al, 2020;Calore et al, 2020).…”

“…The acid and alkali agents have been used, such as diluted sulfuric acid [1], potassium hydroxide [12], and sodium hydroxide [13,14]. Several other polysaccharides extraction methods were reported, such as steam explosion [15], using the subcritical water [16] and enzymatic hydrolysis [3].…”
