Abstract:Reflective electro-absorption modulation-intensity modulators (REAM-IMs) are utilized, for the first time, to experimentally demonstrate colorless ONUs in single-fiber-based, bidirectional, intensity-modulation and direct-detection (IMDD), optical OFDM PONs (OOFDM-PONs) incorporating 25km SSMFs and OLT-side-seeded CW optical signals. The colorlessness of the REAM-IMs is characterized, based on which optimum REAM-IM operating conditions are identified. In the aforementioned PON architecture, 10Gb/s colorless upstream transmissions of end-to-end realtime OOFDM signals are successfully achieved for various wavelengths within the entire C-band. Over such a wavelength window, corresponding minimum received optical powers at the FEC limit vary in a range as small as <0.5dB. In addition, experimental measurements also indicate that Rayleigh backscattering imposes a 2.8dB optical power penalty on the 10Gb/s over 25km upstream OOFDM signal transmission. Furthermore, making use of on-line adaptive bit and power loading, a linear trade-off between aggregated signal line rate and optical power budget is observed, which shows that, for the present PON system, a 10% reduction in signal line rate can improve the optical power budget by 2.6dB.

Quantum well devices feature heterostructures of very thin epitaxial layers of group III-V and II-VI semiconductor materials. Quantum well devices are integrated monolithically with various optoelectronics devices to provide photonic integrated circuits. The representative structure could be realized with GaAs wells with GaAlAs barriers for wavelengths around 0.9 Pm and InGaAsP are used for longer wavelengths. Together with quantum well, superlattice structure is another popular design for InGaAs Avalanche Photo Diode (APD). Quantum well structures find their applications in improved lasers, superlattice for photodiodes, modulators and switches. Consequences of quantum well theory are available today in terms of quantum wires and quantum dots. Upon the application of the normal electric field to quantum well structures, exciton pairs becomes more and more confined and the sharp exciton absorption peaks are observed. The effect is termed as "Quantum Confined Stark Effect". The electro-absorption effect is approximately 50 times larger in multiple quantum well structures than it is in bulk semiconductors. Another electro-absorption effect known as "Franz Keldysh Effect" has been employed in monolithic waveguide detector. These effects lead to electro-absorption lasers (EAL) as well as electro-absorption laser modulators (EML).

Radio over Fiber is an integration of microwave and optical fiber technologies having numerous benefits. RoF technology can give a scope of advantages including the capacity for backing multiple radio services and standards. In coming future, there is need of integrated wireless service with high speed satellite broadband and multifunctional indoor/outdoor antennas. Radio over fiber is one of the most favorite candidates to meet all these requirements of future multifunctional integrated wireless communication. Due to planer profile, small size and low cost patch antennas are most favorite to use for multi-frequency applications. In this paper, we present system level design for future multifunctional radio over fiber network. Under FTTH (Fiber To The Home) technology, it will be possible to use multi-frequency applications on single fiber medium. Firstly, we designed S band circular patch antenna (2.5 GHz) and Ka band (29 GHz) horn antenna. Circular patch antenna performance is estimated with different substrate height. After getting S parameters and far-field results, we did modeling of Radio over Fiber system over (10 Km) with same parameters from antenna results.
