Application of e-TOPSIS for Ground Water Potentiality Zonation using Morphometric Parameters and Geospatial Technology of Vanvate Lui Basin, Mizoram, NE India

Abstract: Morphometric analysis is the mathematical analysis of a watershed. Groundwater storage is directly related to the morphometry of a watershed. Remote sensing and GIS gives an opportunity for the scientific and empirical investigation towards groundwater potentiality. The utilization of RS/GIS for scientific investigation into ground water potentiality is quite innovative for the hilly state of Mizoram of India, which faces acute water shortage during the winter season. Vanvate Lui basin of Mizoram was thus chos… Show more

“…The TOPSIS method, namely, the "distance method of good and bad solutions", is a comprehensive evaluation method based on an objective perspective and uses distance as the evaluation standard. Since the indicator data were processed positively and standardized, the scores of each dimension were calculated according to the threelevel indicator weights, and then the total scores of the rural development quality of each research unit were obtained according to the subjective weight of the criteria layer [37,38].…”

“…Rapid urbanization and global climate change make groundwater an exhausted resource. Identification of groundwater in the hilly mountains is very difficult due to its high terrain (Barman and Biswas 2022). The traditional method of groundwater exploration (drilling) is very time-consuming and manpower intensive.…”

“…The northeaster state like Mizoram entirely covered with hilly terrain. Although rainfall is the major source of groundwater, most of the water is drained as spring water through fractures and joints (Barman and Biswas 2022;Barman et al 2023c). It was estimated during the monsoons the rate of discharge varies from 0.002 to 0.168 m 3 /s, while it varies between 0.001 m 3 /s and 0.084 m 3 /s in the non-monsoon periods from the springs (Central Ground Water Board 2021).…”
