“…Diamagnetic levitation is a technique to stimulate groundbased low gravity (reviewed in Qian et al 2013). A superconducting solenoid magnet (MF in the geometric center of the solenoid was 16.5 T) was used for diamagnetic levitation of transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana ecotype Columbia seedlings containing the CycB1-GUS proliferation marker and the DR5-GUS auxin-mediated growth marker, respectively (Manzano et al 2013).…”

“…We raise a hypothesis that 16 T SMF had inhibited effects on osteoclast activity, while its formation and differentiation could be enhanced by intensities of 500 nT and 0.2 T. In order to test our hypothesis, we investigated the regulatory role of SMFs on osteoclastogenesis and the ability of the bone resorption of osteoclast precursor RAW264.7 cells under such SMFs as HyMF, GMF, MMF to HiMF. The present study utilized HyMF of about 500 nT (created by a magnetic shielding room), MMF of 0.2-0.4 T (surrounding a superconducting magnet) and HiMF of 16 T (generated by a superconducting magnet) based on our previous studies (Jia et al, 2014;Wang et al, 2009;Qian et al, 2009Qian et al, , 2013.…”

“…In diamagnetic levitation the same magnetic force is applied to each part of the diamagnetic materials and thus it is a stable system and a valuable and suitable simulation technology for long biological experiments. Diamagnetic levitation is a new and potentially transformative method to explore how gravity affects living organisms and many researchers have begun to use it in their studies (Valles et al, 1997;Liu et al, 2010Liu et al, , 2011Herranz et al, 2012;Tian et al, 2010;Qian et al, 2009Qian et al, , 2013Gao et al, 2010;Dijkstra et al, 2011;Yan et al, 2012).…”
