Application of Cyclohexane‐1,3‐diones in the Synthesis of Six‐Membered Nitrogen‐Containing Heterocycles

Abstract: Cyclohexane‐1,3‐dione and its derivatives are imperative precursors in synthetic organic chemistry as they are useful intermediates for the synthesis of a wide range of biologically active natural products, heterocycles and pharmaceuticals. Recently, cyclohexane‐1,3‐diones have been used for the synthesis of varied array of six‐membered nitrogen‐containing heterocycles in the presence of aldehydes, acetoacetic esters, malononitrile, chalcones, coumarins, acetophenones, amino acids, amines, etc. under catalytic… Show more

“…Hantzsch pyridine synthesis is a well-known reaction for the synthesis of a pyridine ring from the cyclization reaction of simple raw materials such as formaldehyde, ammonium acetate and ethyl acetoacetate. 16 Although Hantzsch pyridine synthesis is an important reaction in organic chemistry and various pyridine derivatives have been synthesized by this method, 17 searching the literature indicates that these materials have not been used in coordination chemistry; in particular, there is no report on their hydrazides. Due to the presence of two ester groups connected to the central pyridine ring, Hantzsch pyridine can be a good precursor for the synthesis of dihydrazone ligands and also new multinuclear hydrazone complexes.…”
