Application of Computed Tomography Virtual Noncontrast Spectral Imaging in Evaluation of Hepatic Metastases

Abstract: Objective:The objective was to qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate hepatic metastases using computed tomography (CT) virtual noncontrast (VNC) spectral imaging in a retrospective analysis. Methods:Forty hepatic metastases patients underwent CT scans including the conventional true noncontrast (TNC) and the tri-phasic contrast-enhanced dual energy spectral scans in the hepatic arterial, portal venous, and equilibrium phases. The tri-phasic spectral CT images were used to obtain three groups of VNC images i… Show more

“…In our research, we followed the contrast media policy of a previous study (11) and started the three-phase scans using fixed delay times. In our study, the radiation dose (CTDI value) for the spectral CT mode was 13.79 ± 2.35 mGy, which was similar or even lower than the conventional CT scans in the same anatomic area and for patients with similar sizes.…”

“…The contrast medium Iohexol (Omnipaque; GE Healthcare, USA) was injected by power injector at a dose of 1.5 mL/kg and a rate of 3.5 mL/s through median cubital vein. For the arterial phase, portal venous phase, and delayed phase, scanning started 35, 67, and 135 s after the beginning of contrast injection, respectively (11).…”

“…Виртуальные неконтрастные изображения получают способом «вычитания плотности йода» из постконтрастных КТ-серий, что позволяет исключить нативное сканирование и уменьшить лучевую нагрузку на пациента при многофазных контрастных исследованиях [9,[15][16][17]. Оценка эффективных атомных чисел используется, главным образом, в урологии для определения химического состава мочевых конкрементов [13,18].…”
