Sunan Candlenut (Reutealis trisperma (Blanco) Airy Shaw) is a type of vegetable oil producing plant that has great potential as a source of raw material for biodiesel. To develop Sunan Candlenut plants on marginal land, it is necessary to achieve innovation in their cultivation, specifically by providing NPK fertilizer and nutrition with plant supplements using chitosan. In an effort to increase the effect of chitosan on plant growth, it is necessary to add gibberellins (GA3). There was no interaction between NPK fertilizer application at various doses and chitosan administration on all vegetative growth parameters of the Sunan Candlenut plants which were observed. The results showed that the dose of NPK fertilizer had the same effect on all parameters. Chitosan plus (chitosan 30 ml/l + GA3) gives a better effect on all parameters observed. Plants treated with chitosan had a higher number of secondary branches and leaf canopy width than those without chitosan.

Chitosan is a compound obtained from the extraction of marine crustaceans. Chitosan has an essential role in agriculture as a plant growth promoter. Research on the effect of chitosan application time on seedlings of various rambutan varieties aims to determine if there is an effect of differences in chitosan application time and varieties on the growth of rambutan seedlings. The research was conducted in March-June 2022 at the Screen House of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University using a Randomize Completely Block Design (RCBD) with 2 factors. The first factor was aceh, binjai, and rapiah variety. The second factor is without chitosan application, morning chitosan application, afternoon chitosan application, morning and afternoon chitosan application. Chitosan application was done weekly with a concentration of 2 ml/L. The results showed that chitosan application time in the morning produces the highest plant height in all rambutan varieties. Rapiah gave the best results in plant height and root length, binjai gave the highest results in stem diameter and leaf area, while aceh variety gave the highest results in the number of leaves.

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel substitute for fossil fuel, which is produced from the trans-esterification and esterification process of vegetable oil and animal fats. One of the potential materials to be processed to biodiesel is kemiri sunan (Reutealis trisperma), due to its high oil content and inedible amount of toxic. Study based on literature review has been done to identify and analyze the effect of catalysts to the yield of biodiesel from kemiri sunan (Reutealis trisperma) oil. The acquired data on the catalyst used on the experimental trials was categorized as KOH with concentrations of 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.5%, 0.6%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0% and NaOH with concentrations of 0.5%, 0.75%, 1.0%, 1.25%, 1.5% and 2.0%. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the biodiesel that meets the Indonesia National Standard (SNI) requirements was the biodiesel treated with 0.2% KOH and processed in two stages of trans-esterification. Further experimental studies on the multi stages trans-esterification and catalyst treatments are still needed to explore the potential of kemiri sunan for biodiesel production.
