Pencemaran udara dari emisi gas buang kendaraan bermotor semakin meningkat, sehingga perlu upaya pengendalian emisi gas buangnya. Mengingat bahaya emisi gas buang, maka perlu usaha-usaha untuk mengendalikan dan mengurangi pencemaran udara agar dampak negatif bagi manuisa dan lingkungan dapat dikurangi. Salah satu teknologi rekayasa sebagai wujud dari kontrol emisi kendaraan adalah merekayasa dan modifikasi saluran gas buang. Rekayasa dan modifikasi diharapkan dapat dibuat alat yang akan mampu dan berfungsi untuk mereduksi bahaya gas buang. Peneliti akan melakukan eksperimen dan pembuatan alat serta pengujian awal pada satu kendaraan bermotor untuk melihat dan mengamati komposisi gas buang yang dihasilkan dari knalpot. Unsur yang akan diamati adalah nilai CO, nilai HC, dan nilai CO2 sebagai data pembanding. Alat yang akan digunakan untuk mengamati dan melihat unsur-unsur tersebut adalah alat Gas Analyzer. Alat ini salah satu alat instrument yang bermanfaat untuk mengukur porsi dan komposisi dari gabungan gas. Dari hasil pengujian dan analisa didapat data pada uji emisi gas buang dengan putaran mesin rata-rata 500 rpm, dan dengan suhu tabung luar knalpot 40 0C hingga 45 0C. Setelah pengujian model knalpot standart, kemudian pengujian model knalpot rekayasa yang ditambahkan 50 gr, 70 gr, dan 90 gr skrap dari besi ST-40 diperoleh kesimpulan yang paling baik untuk menurunkan dan mengurangi bahaya emisi gas buang adalah knalpot rekayasa yang ditambahkan 90 gr skrap dari besi ST-40. Dan jika dibandingkan dengan knalpot standar, unsur CO turun hingga 72,35% dan unsur HC turun hingga 58,70% serta unsur CO2 turun hingga 74,28%.

Air pollution due to motor vehicle exhaust emissions is increased. Polluted air harms human health dan the environment. Consequently, it is essential to make a sustained effort to reduce air pollution. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of adding aluminum scrap to the exhaust system of a motor vehicle on gas emissions composition. The motor vehicle exhaust system was modified to accommodate aluminum scrap placement. A gas analyzer was utilized to observe exhaust gas composition, such as carbon dioxide, hydrocarbon, and carbon monoxide. Aluminum scrap with different masses was wrapped around the exhaust's inner tube in 50 gr, 70 gr and 90 gr. The engine speed was maintained at 500 rpm throughout the testing process. It was found that the temperature of the outer exhaust tube is in a range of 40 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius. The results revealed that the most appropriate amount of aluminum scrap was 90 gr n to reduce carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon, and carbon dioxide in an exhausts gas. The surprising outcome was 76.78 % of carbon monoxide content declined, and furthermore hydrocarbon, and carbon dioxide content were deteriorated by 61.63% and 78.37%, respectively.

This study aims to determine the effect of installing modified copper C-SiO2-ZSM5 in the exhaust, installing modified copper in the exhaust to reduce CO and HC. The two methods used to reduce CO and HC exhaust emissions are as follows: the first method is by mixing fossil fuels with ethanol. The fuel used is a mixture of gasoline + ethanol with variations of gasoline, E10, and E20. The second method is to provide a CO and HC reformer catalyst made of modified copper with the addition of SiO2 and MZM5 as much as 10% and 20%, respectively. The test uses a four-stroke two-wheel motor in a neutral gear position. Exhaust emission data retrieval is at 1500, 3000, 5000, 7000, 9000 rpm. With gasoline fuel mixed with ethanol with E 10 and E 20. There is a decrease in CO at each engine speed in each fuel variation, because the more ethanol content, the greater the supply of O2 in combustion because ethanol has oxygen bonds that can increase combustion. The emission of CO and HC gas on gasoline-fueled motors are greater than those of E 10 and E 20 motors. The use of a copper converter catalyst SiO2-C-ZSM5 is very significant and can reduce CO levels for gasoline fuel from the highest value of 4,7% to 2.82%, gasohol fuel E 10 with the highest value of CO 3.02% decreased to 1.2% and gasohol fuel E 20 the highest value of CO 2.78% decreased to 0.17%. Changes were seen visually on the surface of the copper used for the CO and HC reduction test, the surface copper became darker in color, especially when testing using gasoline. When using a mixture of ethanol and gasoline, copper is purplish brown color.
