Purpose This study aims to assess the impact of visual multimedia in improving entrepreneurial competence and economic self-efficacy among widowed women farmers. Design/methodology/approach The participants received entrepreneurial training through visual multimedia package. The sample size was made up of 540 widowed women farmers. The entrepreneurship competence and economic self-efficacy scales were used as the instruments for data collection. The purpose of the entrepreneurial competence scale was to measure the mental competence of the participants to engage in entrepreneurial ventures. On the other hand, the economic self-efficacy scale measured the ability of the women to solve their financial problems, thus, meeting their financial needs. Both scales were administered face-to-face to the participants before, and after the training and during follow-up assessment after three years. Findings The result of the study showed that the women farmers reported low entrepreneurship competence and economic self-efficacy before the training. After the training, the women farmers who received the multimedia training reported an improvement, but those who did not receive the training did not show an improvement. A follow-up assessment after three years revealed stability in the improvement among women farmers who received the training. It was also indicated that interactive visual multimedia was found to be more effective than noninteractive visual multimedia. Originality/value This study has provided empirical evidence on how best to empower widowed women farmers by improving their entrepreneurial competence and economic self-efficacy. This information could be useful for policy formulation and advocacy in relation to women’s empowerment.

Purpose: To accelerate modern micro-enterprises especially for women in developing countries, waqf can bridge the gap in the financial exclusion of women in entrepreneurship activities. The goal of this research is to identify the extent to which financial inclusion can enhance women’s economic empowerment in developing countries through waqf. Methodology: This study used a desk-based review of the literature to gain insight into the concept of the research variables. Findings: The paper revealed that property waqf, cash waqf, and corporate waqf can influence women’s economic empowerment through the development of physical capital, financial capital, and human capital. Significance: This paper reviewed the extant literature to provide a research framework that will accelerate women entrepreneurship, enhance Islamic wealth management and financial inclusion of women in Muslim societies. Theoretically, this study has contributed to the body of knowledge in Islamic finance, women empowerment and entrepreneurship development. Limitations: This study only focused to the body of knowledge in women empowerment and entrepreneurship development in developing countries. Practical Implications: Practically, access to the financial system will be improved by increasing the access of small businesswomen entrepreneurs, resulting in an increase in asset ownership, wealth creation, and serving as a catalyst for larger economic empowerment. Women’s entrepreneurship in can be improved with adequate knowledge of waqf instruments, conscious planning, and implementation by relevant stakeholders.

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh inflasi, upah miminum, belanja daerah dan pinjaman perbankan terhadap tingkat pengangguran terbuka di Jawa Timur 2013-2018. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kuantitif dengan mengambil periode waktu tahun 2013-2018 dan objek penelitian 8 kabupaten/kota di Provinsi Jawa Timur. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah regresi data panel dengan model random effect. Hasilpenelitian ini adalah dihasilkannya persamaan Y = 56,22 - 0,07 X1 - 4,90 X2 - 5,48 X3 + 4,49 X4 + eit. Menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi inflasi, upah minimum dan belanja daerah maka akan menurunkan tingkat pengangguran terbuka. Sedangkan untuk pinjaman perbankan, semakin tinggi pinjaman yang diberikan bank, maka tingkat pengangguran terbuka akan semakin meningkat. Variabel yang mempunyai pengaruh paling besar dalam mengurangi tingkat pengangguran terbuka adalah belanja daerah, sedangkan variabel yang dapat menambah jumlah tingkat pengangguran terbuka adalah pinjaman perbankan. Saran yang relevan dengan hasil penelitian adalah, bagi pemerintah Provinsi Jawa Timur agar menaikkan jumlah anggaran untuk belanja daerah guna menurunkan tingkat pengangguran terbuka. Dan bagi pihak perbankan diharapkan lebih selektif lagi dalam memberikan pinjaman agar tidak menyumbang peningkatan jumlah pengangguran terbuka di Provinsi Jawa Timur.
