Application Of A Zone Model To The Simulation Of Heat Transfer In Fire Resistance Furnaces Piloted With Thermocouples Or Plate Thermometers

Abstract: During the previous years, v~sible differences have been observed on the thermal response of a g i x n specimen placed in standard fuinaces piloted with thermocouples, The definition of a method for harmonising the severity of the heat flux absorbed by a specimen in fire resistance furnaces is necessary in order to reduce the differences observed. For several years, the project of using plate thermometers instead of thermocouples to control the furnace temperature has been examined and discussed. These new sen… Show more

“…Furthermore, numerous authors have suggested replacing a prescribed time-history of temperature when describing a fire with a time-history of incident radiant heat flux (e.g. [11,14,54,56,61,[75][76][77][78]). This is the approach taken in the current research.…”

“…Furthermore, the ECHAFO software (e.g. see Fromy and Curtat 1999) developed in order to model thermal exchanges in re resistance furnaces, allows us to perform the calculation of the total heat ux received by the specimen surface at dierent time steps of conventional re resistance test. First, one characterizes the incidental heat ux received by a uxmeter at dierent distances from the radiant panel and then, the cart displacement program is found out in order to reproduce by means of the TLB the incidental heat ux calculated by ECHAFO.…”

“…The combination of a heat source used in its steady state and a specimen movement controlled with a millimeter precision insures an excellent reproducibility on the thermal load. Furthermore the ECHAFO software [5] developed in order to model thermal exchanges in fire resistance furnaces, allows us to perform the calculation of the total heat flux received by the specimen surface at different time steps of conventional fire resistance test. First, one characterizes the incidental heat flux received by a fluxmeter at different distances from the radiant panel and then the cart displacement program is find out in order to reproduce by means of the TLB the incidental heat flux calculated by ECHAFO.…”
