Application of a facile solid-state process to synthesize the CdO spherical nanoparticles

Abstract: Mechanochemical process has attracted a worldwide interest in the synthesis of nanomaterials since reactions can be run in solid state without any organic solvent. Therefore, this method is an environmentally friendly reaction. Cadmium oxide is a category of the practical semiconductor metal oxides, which is widely applied in various scientific and industrial fields because of its catalytic, optical, and electrical properties. In this study, cadmium oxide spherical nanoparticles were successfully synthesized u… Show more

“…The UV-Vis spectra of the solid polymer composites based on polystyrene have been recorded using UV-Vis spectra (model: Lambda 25) in the absorbance mode. To calculate the transmittance ( ), absorption coefficient ( ), extinction coefficient ( ), and refractive index ( ), the optical study was performed for polystyrene-Cu (0.01 ≤ ≤ 0.06) composites by analyzing the absorption spectra as follows [7,[9][10][11]:…”

“…More precisely, CdO is a IIIeIV n-type semiconductor with a direct large and a narrow indirect band gaps ranging within 2.2e2.5 eV and 1.36e1.98 eV respectively [2,3]. The n-type conduction is attributed to its native oxygen vacancies and cadmium interstitials.…”

“…Fig 2D shows the TEM image of the Cd-doped TiO 2 nanofiber; the appearance of transparent bubble-like nanoparticles attached to the surface of the TiO 2 nanofiber is notable. It should be mentioned that the utilized calcination process for the prepared electrospun Ti(Iso)/CdAc)/PVP nanofibers resulted in producing CdO-TiO 2 (CdTiO 3 ) NPs-attaching a TiO 2 matrix [ 17 , 39 , 40 ]. As CdTiO 3 nanoparticles exhibit several catalytic, optical, and electrical properties, their presence over the surface of the nanofiber can enhance the TiO 2 nanofiber’s photocatalytic performance by functioning as electron trapping sites for the hydrogen evolution reaction as it will be discussed below.…”
