Application and development of pyrolysis technology in petroleum oily sludge treatment

Abstract: With the enhancement of public awareness of environmental protection, the harm of oily sludge has gradually been paid attention to. As a kind of dangerous solid waste, the arbitrary disposal of oily sludge will cause quite serious harm to both the environment and human beings. Research on the treatment methods of oily sludge has become a hot spot recently. At present, treatment methods of oily sludge are various, mainly including pyrolysis, direct combustion, freeze-thaw treatment, biological treatment, solven… Show more

“…The steam-gas mixture formed as a result of the OS pyrolysis was continuously removed from the reactor and supplied to condensing devices ( 6) and (7). During primary condensation of the steam-gas mixture (6), heavier fractions-bitumen-were separated. At the second condensation stage (7), the liquid hydrocarbons formed and the water (agent used) were separated.…”

“…Oil is one of the most abundant energy resources worldwide [1]; its extraction, transportation, storage, and processing are associated with the formation of a significant amount of waste, including oil sludge (OS) [2][3][4][5][6][7]. This type of high-hazard waste comprises water, oil, mineral impurities, and different deposits (sand, clay, silt, etc.)…”

“…Biological Treatment Technology. Biological treatment is a process that uses microorganisms to decompose the hydrocarbons in the oily sludge into carbon dioxide and water to achieve harmlessness [11]. Most of the petroleum products in oil oily sludge can be decomposed by microorganisms, and the decomposition rate is mainly affected by the composition of hydrocarbons.…”

“…Oily sludge is not inherent in nature but is a mixture of oil, soil, and water, even mixed with other pollutants from oilfield exploitation, the oil refining process, transportation, use, and storage. Oily sludge is harmful to human beings, plants and water organisms and is one of the main pollutants in the petroleum and petrochemical industries [1]. Therefore, research on the reduction and harmless treatment of oily sludge has always been an important issue in oil production [2].…”
