Appendix A—Hydrology and physiography of limestone terranes

Abstract

On April 28, 1947, a symposium was held as part of the Annual Meeting of the Section of Hydrology, American Geophysical Union, on the subject Ground‐water hydrology Of limestone terranes. The session was reported in the minutes of the Annual Meeting [Trans. Amer. Geophys. Union, v. 28, p. 511, 1947]. At least three of these papers have appeared. HAMILTON [1948] emphasized that the control of solutional activity is by joints and bedding planes and noted the greater extent to which solution has progressed in the valleys than in the interstream areas. MONEYMAKER [1948] states that there is extensive solution in the area, extending “hundreds of feet below the present water table” and controlled more by geologic structure than by the purity (sic) of the rock. He concludes that the solutional activity has been in progress for a very long time.
