“…The result was consistent with a previous observation that only MMP-9 is induced with TPA and that MMP-9 plays a central role in the TPA-induced invasion of MCF-7 cells (16). MMP-9 regulates tumor progression and invasion on two levels, including activity and expression (30). MMP-9 is a critical enzyme required for degrading type IV collagen, a major component of the basement membrane.…”

“…Even though PMA did not activate Akt pathway in Caski cells, apigenin by itself suppressed the phosphorylated Akt levels (data not shown). Recently, it was reported that apigenin inhibited HGFpromoted invasive growth and metastasis involving blocking PI3K/Akt pathway in several cancer cells including MDA-MB-231, breast cancer cells, human hepatocellular carcinoma SKHep1 cells and human lung carcinoma A549 cells (30). Our result and that of the previous study suggested the possibility that down-regulation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway by apigenin could be developed into cancer chemopreventor.…”

“…Several reports have suggested that apigenin exerts its anticancer effects by blocking the Akt pathway (25,27,28). In the present study, 5-fluorouracil combined with apigenin decreased both the expression and phosphorylation of Akt in an apigenin dosedependent manner.…”
