Aphis Craccivora Koch. And Predators on Faba Bean and Cowpea in Newly Reclaimed Areas in Egypt

Abstract: The population density of the cowpea aphid, Aphis craccivora Koch. and its associated predators on faba bean and cowpea fields were studied at El-Khattara district, Sharkia Governorate, Egypt in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons. A. craccivora had three peaks on faba bean for each season the first peak was during the fourth week of December , the second one was in the second week of February, where the last peak was in the first week of March (2010-2011 season), The three peaks of 2011-2012 were recorded in the… Show more

“…Saleh et al (2009) reported that temperature and relative humidity play an important role in the population changes of A. craccivora on the broad bean crop. However, Ali et al (2013) recorded a highly positive significant correlation between the number of A. craccivora on cowpea and both temperature and relative humidity but not on broad beans in Khattara district, Sharkia. Also, the relatively warmer temperatures recorded in some years positively influenced the population development of R. maidis in cereals (Barta and Cagan, 2005).…”

“…The cowpea aphid, Aphis craccivora (Koch) and the corn leaf aphid, Rhopalosiphum maidis (Fitch) are common pests on broad beans, cowpea and other legumes (Attia et al, 1986;Ali, 2004;Ali et al, 2013) and on maize, wheat and other cereal crops (Ismail et al, 1993;Mannaa, 2000 andAbdel-Samad, 2001) respectively, in Egypt.…”

“…The damage ratio increased as the mines' numbers increased (Parella et al, 1985). Insect predators play an important role in managing insect pests (Ali et al, 2013 andEl-Mashaly 2013). Vanderycken et al in Belgium (2011) recorded the aphid's natural enemies such (Hoverflies, coccinellids and lacewings in several agro-ecosystem, (wheat, corn, potato corn, and broad bean).…”
