“…The COBE® Spectra apheresis system (Terumo BCT, Lakewood, Colorado) has been the most widely used platform for many years for HPC collection . The Spectra Optia® apheresis system (Terumo BCT, Lakewood, Colorado) is a newer system with several upgrades including an automated interface management system that automatically detects and maintains buffy coat interface for HPC collection .…”

“…The COBE Spectra (COBE; TerumoBCT) has been the most widely used platform to collect HSCs worldwide . The COBE supports both dual‐step and single‐step mononuclear cell (MNC) processing, but is being replaced by the Spectra Optia (OPTIA; TerumoBCT), which previously supported only dual‐step MNC processing.…”
The OPTIA CMNC collection procedure is safe and effective for the collection of CD34+ cells in G-CSF-mobilized donors and was superior to the COBE for CE1% and CE2%, collecting approximately 19 and 16% higher, respectively.
“…Plasma exchange (PE) is a therapeutic procedure in which blood of the patient is passed through a medical device which separates out plasma from other components of blood, the plasma is removed and replaced with a replacement solution . PE is the most commonly performed therapeutic apheresis procedure, according to data from international registries and national surveys . The basic premise of PE is that removal of substances will reduce further damage and may permit reversal of the pathologic process .…”
The Amicus device could effectively perform PE procedures. In terms of PRE, the Amicus and Optia were similar, but both devices were superior to the Spectra. The Amicus used a lower volume of anticoagulant when compared with the Optia.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
