Abstract:Hypertension is a major modifiable risk factor for coronary artery disease. The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying hypertension as a risk factor for coronary artery disease are not fully understood. Apelin is a vasoactive peptide that binds to APJ receptors, which are highly expressed throughout the cardiovascular system, including coronary arteries. APJ receptors signal via G‐protein‐dependent and ‐independent pathways, including activation of G‐protein‐coupled‐receptor kinase 2 (GRK2), which can potent… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
