AOA estimation for coexisting UWB signals with multipath channels

Abstract: The applications of location-based service (LBS) grow rapidly and draw significant research attention recently. As the advance of localization technology, not only the LBS can be applied outdoors but also in indoor environments with abundant multipath channels. Angle-of-Arrival (AOA) estimation is a vital technology for signal source localization; however, its accuracy is significantly affected by multipath signal propagation. Ultra-Wideband (UWB) signal as one of promising short-range communication technologi… Show more

“…Figure 6 presents comparisons for the CDF performance at SDR = 2 m, SDA = 1 , i.e., a typical measurement noise level in existing literature [ 28 , 29 ]. From it, we definitely see the superior performance of the proposed algorithm, i.e., even with only two LOS-ANs, the NI-LS method yields about nine meters errors with probability higher than 0.95.…”

“…5, the value of G M (1, 2) is 2, which indicates that the RSRP changing pair (1, 2) occurs twice in the vector R c . Also, the G M (3,4) value is 1 indicating that the RSRP changing pair (3,4) only occurs once in the vector R c . And then the normalized RSRP co-occurrence matrix P M ∈ R m×m is obtained by normalizing G M with the sum frequency of all RSRP changing pairs n − 1:…”

“…Furthermore, even with auxiliary information, it has to take a long time to calculate the position and the result is inaccurate, especially for the fast-moving UEs. Another option is to implement the commonly used ranging techniques, including time of arrival (TOA), angle of arrival (AOA), observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) [2][3][4]. Some hybrid techniques are also proposed for ranging, such as TOA/AOA and TOA/TDOA [5,6].…”
