The Guangzhou Metro Authority implemented health condition registration and temperature checks to curb the spread of the virus during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it is important to investigate how these measures may have impacted the get-through efficiency and whether they caused the increased crowding at entrances and the station hall. To address these questions, simulation models based on the T Station were developed using AnyLogic. The model compared the get-through efficiencies with and without the anti-epidemic measures, while also analysing the risk of crowding at entrances and within the station hall after their implementation. Results revealed an increase in the number of passengers unsuccessfully passing through the check-in gate machines from 15% to 53% within 5 minutes, and 10% to 45% within 10 minutes when the anti-epidemic measures were in place. It was also observed that some entrances experienced significant crowding. Three measures were simulated to find effective ways to increase the get-through efficiency and mitigate the crowding – increasing the distance between security and health checks, utilising automatic infrared thermometers, and arranging volunteers or staff to assist with the registration process. The results demonstrated that using automatic infrared thermometers instead of handheld forehead thermometers proved to be effective in improving passenger efficiency and alleviating crowding at entrances and within the station hall.

A Time Domain-Based Iterative Method for Helicopter Maritime Search Area Planning and Construction of the Simulation Environment

Helicopters are widely used in maritime search and rescue (SAR) missions. To improve the probability of success (POS) of SAR missions, search areas should be carefully planned. However, the search area is usually determined based on the survivors' probable locations at a given moment by existing planning methods, while the effects of the relative motion between the helicopter and the search objects are ignored, possibly leading to a significant decrease in the POS. To minimize the impact of search object motion, a time domain-based iterative planning (TIP) method is proposed in this paper to obtain the optimal search areas. The survivors' probable locations and mean drift direction are updated iteratively, while the probability map is developed by taking survivors' mean drift direction as a reference. Then, the optimal search area is determined by an iterative search method starting from the cell with the highest probability of containment. To evaluate the effectiveness of a search plan, an agent-based simulation environment of a maritime search mission is constructed based on the AnyLogic simulation platform. Taking a capsizing case as an example, the simulation results show that the novel TIP method minimizes the impact of search object motion on the search effectiveness and obtains higher POS values than those obtained by other methods.

Job management system (JMS) is an important part of any supercomputer. JMS creates a schedule for launching jobs of different users. Actual job management systems are complex software systems with a number of settings. These settings have a significant impact on various JMS metrics, such as supercomputer resources utilization, mean waiting time of a job in queue, and others. Various JMS simulators are widely used to study the influence of JMS settings or modifications, new scheduling algorithms, jobs input stream parameters or available computing resources for JMS efficiency metrics. The article presents the comparative analysis results of the actual JMS simulators (Alea, ScSF, Batsim, AccaSim, Slurm simulator) and their application areas. The authors consider new ways to use the JMS simulator as a scientific service for researchers. With such a service, the researchers are able to study various hypotheses about JMS efficiency, algorithms or parameters. This gives the folowing: (1) research is performed on the service side around the clock, (2) the simulator accuracy or adequacy is provided by the service, (3) the research results reproducibility is ensured, and the simulator-as-a-service becomes a single entry point for the researchers.
