ANTS2 package: simulation and experimental data processing for Anger camera type detectors

Abstract: ANTS2 is a simulation and data processing package developed for position sensitive detectors with Anger camera type readout. The simulation module of ANTS2 is based on ROOT package from CERN, which is used to store the detector geometry and to perform 3D navigation. The module is capable of simulating particle sources, performing particle tracking, generating photons of primary and secondary scintillation, tracing optical photons and generating photosensor signals. The reconstruction module features several po… Show more

“…The reason is that the corners act as light guides, concentrating most the scintillation light along them. We have performed simulations to validate this concept with the ANTS2 software package [ 15 ], considering square SiPMs of 6 mm side and a cubic NaI scintillator of 5 cm side. As reported in Figure 2 , simulations confirmed this promising approach: the four-corner layout (green) achieved an energy resolution at 662 keV of 12% FWHM as compared to the best case of 8% achieved by a full coverage of the bottom face (blue).…”

“…The starting point for LUT generation relies on an initialization signal with a good correlation and monotonic dependency with the DOI. This aspect, and the entire calibration procedure was studied and optimized by means of the ANTS2 simulation package [19]. The Clinical INSERT detector unit was modelled taking into account both scintillation and SiPMs properties.…”

“…For 5·10 5 events the iteration procedure takes less than a minute on a consumergrade personal computer equipped with an NVIDIA GTX 1070 GPU. All the tools required for the calibration and the reconstruction procedures are implemented in an open source toolkit ANTS2 [21,22]. The results of position reconstruction for a dataset recorded with the cadmium mask with a grid of holes are shown in figure 4 (CoG and ML) and the corresponding projections along the X and Y axes for the ML reconstruction are presented in figure 5.…”
