Antitumour activity of Annona muricata L. leaf methanol extracts against Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma and Dalton’s Lymphoma Ascites mediated tumours in Swiss albino mice

Abstract: The use of plants as a source of sedative or treatment for cancer is reasonably widespread worldwide. Annona muricata Linn exhibits a vast array of medicinal and ethno-pharmaceutical benefits, attributed by different plant parts. The activity of this plant is regarded to the bio-production of secondary metabolites like alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, and most unique group of compounds, namely, annonaceous acetogenins. Whilst this plant is gaining popularity as an anticancer treating plant, this study was under… Show more

“…Dalton’s lymphoma spontaneously originates in the thymus of murine animals in the transplantable form [ 45 , 46 , 47 ] and, hence, widely used in cancer research, with tumor volume measurement as a reproducible parameter. The current study also revealed that oral administration of OIM extract brought about a gradual, but significant reduction in tumor volume, which was evident from the 12th day of induction onwards up to day 30, signifying the anticancer property of the extract, consistent with previous anticancer studies of plant extracts [ 48 , 49 ] using DLA induced tumors.…”

“…Further the bark of F. leucopyrus has been identified to be effective against ovarian carcinoma (Hettihewa et al, 2015) Annona muricata was the second most commonest plant (fruits, leaves and whole plant) used for cancer therapy in this study group. Other studies have shown that leaves of Annona muricata have potent anticancer activity (Naik et al, 2021) and also has been used in breast cancers (Gavamukulya et al, 2014). The most important phychemicals of A. muricata are alkaloids, phenols and acetogenins (Coria-Téllez et al, 2018).…”
