“…The immune system is the human's ultimate defence against infectious diseases, tumour and cancer growth . Cancer remains a formidable problem for people since the majority of chemical compounds that have been identified as cytotoxic to cancer cells are also toxic to normal cells . In a cancer regimen, immunosuppression remains the main challenge hence the need for immunostimulating anti‐tumour therapies.…”

“…Release of NO by macrophages was measured by the amounts of accumulated nitrite (NO 2 − ) in cell‐free supernatants via the Griess reaction . Cells were suspended in DMEM, plated in 96‐well culture plates (2 × 10 5 cells mL −1 ) and incubated for 48 h at 37°C.…”

“…Thus, the therapeutic benefits of J. spicigera may also be partly due to its ability to decrease the generation of reactive oxygen species, a process that results in oxidative stress and aggravates the diabetic state. The JSE doses used in this study were selected based on their lack of toxic effects, as evaluated in acute toxicity test and on preliminary studies carried out in our laboratory (Alonso-Castro et al, 2012). It is important to point out that in all in vivo experiments the hypoglycemic activities of JSE were similar to those produced by the positive control glibenclamide, which causes hypoglycemia by enhancing insulin secretion in pancreatic b-cells.…”

“…The erythrocytes were lysed with red blood cell lysis buffer, while the remaining cells were suspended in RPMI-1640 medium with 10% fetal calf serum. Cells were counted with a hemocytometer using the trypan blue exclusion technique (14). Cell viability exceeded 95% and cells were resuspended with complete medium at a density of 1x10 10 cells/l.…”
