Antitumor activities of D-glucosamine and its derivatives

Abstract: Abstract:The growth inhibitory effects of D-glucosamine hydrochloride (GlcNH 2 ⋅HCl), D-glucosamine (GlcNH 2 ) and N-acetyl glucosamine (NAG) on human hepatoma SMMC-7721 cells in vitro were investigated. The results showed that GlcNH 2 ⋅HCl and GlcNH 2 resulted in a concentration-dependent reduction in hepatoma cell growth as measured by MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay. This effect was accompanied by a marked increase in the proportion of S cells as analyzed by flow cyt… Show more

“…The same group reported Janus Mg microspheres half coated with the biocompatible polymer poly(caprolactone) and demonstrated self-propulsion in aqueous solutions containing different salts. [104] The salt ion-dependent interaction with the passivation layer controlled the reaction between water and Mg resulting in velocities of around 109 and 75 µm s −1 when minimum concentrations of sodium chloride (0.03 m) and sodium carbonate (0.05 m) salts, respectively, were used. This type of micromotor might have potential in collection of precious metals from solution due to their high affinities toward Pt 2+ and Ag + .…”

“…Chitin and chitosan oligomers (COS) are known to have antitumor activities (Suzuki et al, 1986;Zhang et al, 2006;Azuma et al, 2015b). COS (3 kDa<MW<5 kDa) was suggested to have chemopreventive activity in colon cancer by increasing the activities of quinone reductase (QR), and glutathione-S-transferase (GST), enhancing glutathione (GSH) levels, and inhibiting ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 expression in HT-29 cells (Nam et al, 2007).…”
