Antique motifs in Pinturicchio decoration of Roman chapels

Abstract: The article traces the evolution of ancient motifs in the Roman chapels painted by Pinturicchio and his workshop. For the first time, the symbolic significance of the grotesque is noted in the program of painting in these religious ensembles, most of which are somehow connected with an ancient history.
