“…For example, plants of the genus Artemisia (Ferreira et al, 2011), extract from Zanthoxylum naranjillo (Braguine et al, 2009), crude aqueous extract of Zingiber officinale (Mostafa et al, 2011), several essential oils (Melo et al 2011;Parreira et al 2010;Caixeta et al 2011), among others, have been effective against S. mansoni. In addition, some medicinal plants have been described for clinical used against schistosomiasis, such as Myrrh (Mirazid®), an aromatic oleo-gum resin obtained from Commiphora molmol (also called Commiphora myrrha) that has been used in Egypt against schistosome infection (Abdul-Ghani et al 2009).…”

“…The curcuminloaded PLGA nanoparticles caused a separation between 50% and 100% of S. mansoni couples at a concentration of 30 μM at 24 h. Separation also was noted at 20 μM during others periods evaluated. Not only curcumin, but also other plant constituents, have shown effects on separation of adult worms couples (Parreira et al 2010;Moraes et al 2011). No separation was observed in the negative control groups.…”
