Antiplatelet Activity ofMorus albaLeaves Extract, Mediated via Inhibiting Granule Secretion and Blocking the Phosphorylation of Extracellular-Signal-Regulated Kinase and Akt

Abstract: Ethnopharmacological Relevance. Morus alba L. leaves (MAE) have been used in fork medicine for the treatment of beriberi, edema, diabetes, hypertension, and atherosclerosis. However, underlying mechanism of MAE on cardiovascular protection remains to be elucidated. Therefore, we investigated whether MAE affect platelet aggregation and thrombosis. Materials and Methods. The anti-platelet activity of MAE was studied using rat platelets. The extent of anti-platelet activity of MAE was assayed in collagen-induced … Show more

“…Additionally, mulberry has both the anticancer and the anti-inflammatory properties, which act through different pathways (Kollar et al 2013;Eo et al 2014;Kwon et al 2015;Qian et al 2015). Some reports have demonstrated the leaf's role in ameliorating obesity-induced reactions, increasing bone density and antiplatelet activity (Ann et al 2015;Sungkamanee et al 2014;Kim et al 2014). Therefore, it is essential and beneficial for us to improve the production and quality of mulberry.…”

“…In addition, these results are associated with reduced [Ca 2+ ] i , ATP and serotonin secretion, TXA 2 formation, and integrin αIIbβ3 activation. Moreover, M. alba extract significantly inhibited PI3‐K and Akt phosphorylation (Kim et al ., ). In addition, morusinol, a flavonoid derived from M. alba root bark, significantly inhibited collagen‐induced or AA‐induced platelet aggregation and TXB 2 formation in cultured platelets in a concentration‐dependent manner (Lee et al ., 2012b).…”

“…The overall effect was species‐dependent, with kistrin being up to 1.6‐fold more efficient compared to flavoridin, in inhibiting of ADP‐enhanced platelet aggregation in both dogs and buffalo. In contrast, flavoridin exhibited 2.1‐fold stronger effects than kistrin while inhibiting the binding of platelets from horses . Arg‐Gly‐Asp (or RGD), the cell recognition signal, was found to potently inhibit the aggregation induced by ADP in both human and canine platelet‐rich plasma.…”
