“…The FDLF extracts were found to be significantly (P < 0.05) stronger radical scavenger than FLF at all maturity stages tested with all IC 50 values of lower than 10 mg/ml. This is in accordance to Lee et al (2007) who reported that IC 50 values lower than 10 mg/ml are indicative of the effective antioxidant activity. Freeze drying process has been popularly applied in laboratory practice and food industry to preserve fresh plant material.…”

“…The IC 50 values of FDLF for the eight maturity stages ranged from 1.57-6.51 mg/ml. Lee et al (2007) reported that IC 50 values lower than 10 mg/ml are indicative of the effective antioxidant activity. However, there was no significance difference (P < 0.05) shown among FDLF extracts when they compared to each other.…”

“…Similar antioxidant properties have also been reported for other edible mushrooms, including Agrocybe cylindracea and H. marmoreus, both of which belong to the Tricholomataceae family (Tsai et al, 2006). Potent antioxidant activity was also found in crude methanolic and aqueous extracts of the common Chinese edible mushrooms L. edodes (shiitake mushroom), Pleurotus tuber-regium and V. volvacea (straw mushroom) and a lesser known edible mushroom, A. aegerita, belonging to the family Bolbitiaceae, was evaluated by the β-carotene bleaching method, DPPH radical scavenging activity and erythrocyte hemolysis assay (Lee et al, 2007). Fractionation of the crude methanolic and aqueous extracts of L. edodes, P. tuber-regium and V. volvacea further indicated that the dichloromethane and ethyl acetate fractions of these mushrooms have the strongest antioxidant activity and have the lowest median effective…”

“…According to Lee et al, ethanolic and aqueous extracts of H. marmoreus had moderate antioxidative activities, suggesting that the major antioxidative components in the extracts were phenolic compounds. 1) It has been reported that proteins from H. marmoreus had growth-inhibiting actions against various fungal species and cancer cells. 2,3) However, among its various constituents, the biological activities of the water-soluble extracts have not been extensively studied.…”
