Antioxidant Properties and Glucan Compositions of Various Crude Extract from Lentinus squarrosulus Mycelial Culture

Abstract: Various crude extracts of Lentinus squarrosulus mushroom mycelium and culture broth were prepared for antioxidant studies, glucan and carbohydrate compound analysis. Crude extract from ethanol, cold and hot water extraction was tested on several complementary test systems namely DPPH free radical scavenging, β-carotene linoleic acid oxidation, total phenolic compound, total flavonoid compound, total carbohydrate content and total glucan compositions. The antioxidant activity of the crude extracts of Lentinus s… Show more

“…Firstly, chemical parameters of MLHWP were analysed spectroscopically which can be ranked in the following order: carbohydrates > protein (Table ). Carbohydrates, especially β‐glucan constituted the major proportion of this crude polysaccharide and its relative composition of is very much allied with previous published research findings on Russula alatoreticula , Macrocybe gigantea , Lentinus squarrosulus , Ganoderma applanatum and others.…”

“…P. ostreatus showed highest FRS activity in different organic and inorganic extract was ranged 58.76 % to 89.93 % at a concentration of 20 mg/ml 3 . Crude Extract from Lentinus squarrosulus mycelial culture showed highest FRS activity of 86 % at 20 mg/ml concentration 22 . Highest percentage of DPPH scavenging activity at 4 mg/ml concentration of Pleurotus pulmonarius showed 87.17±0.86; Pleurotus eryngii showed 75.00±1.88 and EC50 was 1.21, 2.67 mg/ml, respectively 23 but Ferreira et al 24 found EC50 value of Pleurotus eryngii was 9.21 mg/ml.…”

“…It has been reported that mushrooms contain different compounds of phenolics. Some authors have stated that mushrooms contain mainly phenolics acids [7,50], while others reported a high amount of flavonoids in extracts [5,37,51]. The total flavonoid content in different species of Pleurotus was found at the level from 1.2 to 2.9 µg/g of extract [49], even to 7.79 mg/g of extract [37].…”
