“…According to Ibrahim et al [ 65 ], the fruit pulp extract of Cordia dichotoma was able to inhibit the development of the breast cancer cell line (MCF7), an effect similar to that found in the work of Ashmawy et al [ 66 ], where the essential oil of C. africana exhibited a potent cytotoxicity against the same cell line, probably through the regulation of apoptosis. Studies on the toxicity of the C. verbenacea essential oil are practically non-existent, but it is known that the leaf extract of these species can reduce the cell viability of MCF7, presenting an IC 50 = 154 μg/mL [ 45 ].…”

“…Polymerization and/or areal phenolic material oxidation during drying process produces a significant variation in phenolic content of seven Kuwaiti C. myxa fruits and leaves extracts (5.50 + 0.17–11.1 + 1.47 mg/g gallic acid equivalent) ( Afzal et al, 2009 ). Egyptian Cordia dichotoma fruits pulp extract contains 112.71 ± 8.40 mg gallic acid/g, 69.76 ± 4.18 mg quercetin/g and 25.65 ± 1.80 mg catechin/g ( Ibrahim et al, 2019 ). Such discrepancy in the phenolic flavonoid contents and could ascribed to species/ genotypes specificity.…”

“…The methanolic extract of C. dichotoma leaves was tested for anticancer activity against human prostate carcinoma cell line (PC3) and human cervical cancer cell line (HeLa), and the results indicate that the extract exhibited good anti-cancerous activity against HeLa [ 29 ]. According to some publications, the antitumor and anticancer actions of C. dichotoma fruit pulp extract may be attributed to its antioxidant ability due to its high level of secondary metabolites [ 30 ]. Healthy cells maintain a correct equilibrium of ROS levels, but stress situations cause ROS levels to overwhelm the antioxidant capacity on defense, resulting in an oxidative stress state.…”
