Antioxidant and skin-whitening effects of aerial part of Euphorbia supina Raf. Extract

Abstract: BackgroundEuphorbia supina (ES) has been widely used in folk medicine owing to its antibacterial, hemostatic, and anti-inflammatory properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and skin-whitening effects of a 70% ethanol extract of ES.MethodsThe aerial parts of ES plant were extracted with 70% ethanol. The viability of B16F10 cells was evaluated by MTT assay to determine the non-toxic doses for further experiments. The tyrosinase and cellular tyrosinase activities were then measured using … Show more

“…The ABTS free radical scavenging assay of the samples was performed in accordance with the method described by Kang et al with slight modifications [ 22 ]. In brief, 2 mL of 10 mM potassium persulfate solution and 2 mL of 10 mM ABTS free radical solution were mixed and then stored in the dark for 12 h. Ethanol was added to the mixed solution to make its absorbance value reach 0.700 ± 0.020 as ABTS working solution at 736 nm on the UV-VIS spectra.…”

“…43 Baicalin is widely used in the preparation of whitening creams and sunscreens owing to its inhibitory effects on melanin production and antibacterial activity. [44][45][46] Luteolin extracted from rose has strong antioxidant activity and tyrosinase inhibition and antibacterial effects, making it useful as natural raw materials for skin care. 47 Our research group isolated PGE via preparative HPLC and column chromatographic fractionation to obtain 14 compounds.…”
