Antioxidant and antimicrobial alkaloids isolated from twigs of Uvaria grandiflora Roxb.

Abstract: Phytochemical investigation of the MeOH-EtOAc (1:1 v/v) soluble fraction partitioned from the MeOH extract of twigs of Uvaria grandiflora Roxb. led to the isolation of six known compounds including aristolactam AII (1), aristolactam BI (2), velutinam (3), griffithinam (4), isoursuline (5), and sinactine (6). Their structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and comparison with the literature data. Described in this work is the first report of isoursuline (5), an azafluorene derivative, an… Show more

“…Recently in 2021, six known compounds including aristolactam AII 43, aristolactam BI 78, velutinam 46 and griffithinam 99 were isolated from the twigs of Uvaria grandiflora Roxb. 68 Three aristolactams, aristolactam AII 43, aristolactam BI 78 and griffithinam 99 were found to be inactive in terms of their antioxidant activity, while the compound velutinam 46 showed remarkable antioxidant properties in the DPPH radical scavenging assay (IC 50 = 240.1 AE 6.5 mg mL À1 ). Furthermore, velutinam 46 and griffithinam 99 were proposed as suitable chemotaxonomic markers for plants in the genus Uvaria (Fig.…”
