“…Hamed et al . found that incorporation of eugenol in Tween 20 micelles improved its DPPH radical scavenging activity27. β-carotene incorporated in chitosan-graft-poly (lactide) micelles showed a significantly higher DPPH radical scavenging activity than free β-carotene24.…”

“…The MIC was defined as the lowest concentration of the total essential oil at which the microorganism does not demonstrate visible growth after incubation. As an indicator of microorganism growth, 25 µl of Thiazolyl Blue Tetrazolium Bromide MTT , indicator solution 0.5 mg/ml dissolved in sterile water were added to the wells and incubated at 37 for 30 min 16 . The colourless tetrazolium salt acts as an electron acceptor and is reduced to a red-coloured formazan product by biologically active organisms.…”

“…To achieve this objective, carrier systems including micelle (Hamed et al, 2012;Pérez-Coneza et al, 2011), nanoparticles (Garg et al, 2011;Gomes et al, 2011), nanocapsules (Choi et al, 2009), microcapsules (Kim et al, 2011;Shinde et al, 2011), cyclodextrins (Choi et al, 2009;Liang et al, 2012;Nuchuchua et al, 2009) and liposomes (Sebaaly et al, 2015) have been prepared to encapsulate CEO and Eug. Encapsulation of CEO and Eug could provide many advantages such as protection against UV (Sebaaly et al, 2015), light (Choi et al, 2009) or thermal (Garg et al, 2011) degradation or oxidation, stability improvement (Choi et al, 2009;Garg et al, 2011;Kim et al, 2011;Sebaaly et al, 2015), enhancement of aqueous solubility (Gomes et al, 2011;Hamed et al, 2012;Liang et al, 2012), controlled release of encapsulated compounds (Garg et al, 2011;Gomes et al, 2011;Nuchuchua et al, 2009) and maintenance or enhancement of biological activities (Garg et al, 2011;Hamed et al, 2012;Kim et al, 2011;Liang et al, 2012;Pérez-Coneza et al, 2011;Sebaaly et al, 2015). However, cyclodextrin inclusion complex are unstable in aqueous media and Eug-loaded micelles were destabilized by singlet oxygen (Watabe et al, 2013).…”
