Antioxidant Activity of Several Cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.) Cultivars

Abstract: -Total phenol, flavonoid and antioxidant components of cabbage leaf samples derived from different cultivar were determined. Total phenol compound content showed the highest amount in methanol extracts from 'YR Howol' cultivar (11.72 ㎎/g), followed by 'Harutame' (10.66㎎/g), 'Winstar' (10.34 ㎎/g) and YR Hero (10.20 ㎎/g). The highest amount of total flavonoid content was observed from the methanol extracts of Harutame (5.39 ㎎/g), followed by Winstar (4.28 ㎎/g), Wialhowol (4.10 ㎎/g). The SOD enzyme activity showe… Show more

“…oleraceae antioxidant activities were already demonstrated in previous studies (Bidchol et al, 2012;Ferreres et al, 2009;Liang et al, 2019;M & Rameshwari. K, 2015;Sotelo et al, 2014;Yang et al, 2015). Previous study corroborates the total reducing powers and DPPH radical scavenging activities found in this study which showed that red cabbage has a greater total reducing power and a greater radical scavenging activity than green cabbage (Liang et al, 2019).…”

“…To investigate the lower ROS level in BR155 compared with SC31 after Xcc inoculation, we carried out a DPPH assay to evaluate non-enzymatic antioxidant activities. Yang et al analyzed the IC 50 value of methanol extracts of several cabbage cultivars using the DPPH assay and found values of 15 to 25 mg/mL [53]. In our system, the IC 50 value of methanol extract of BR155 was 6.5 mg/mL, which indicated relatively high antioxidant activity.…”

“…Therefore, it is important to enrich one's diet with antioxidants to protect against harmful diseases. Hence, there has been increased interest in the food industry and in preventive medicine in the development of "natural antioxidants" from plant materials (Amaeze et al, 2011;Yang et al, 2015).…”
