Antioxidant Activities and Mechanisms of Tomentosin in Human Keratinocytes

Abstract: Tomentosin, one of natural sesquiterpene lactones sourced from Inula viscosa L., exerts therapeutic effects in various cell types. Here, we investigated the antioxidant activities and the underlying action mechanisms of tomentosin in HaCaT cells (a human keratinocyte cell line). Specifically, we examined the involvement of tomentosin in aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) signaling pathways. Treatment with tomentosin for up to 60 min triggered the production o… Show more

“…UPM is known to induce ROS production by activating AhR and its downstream signals [ 25 ]. Therefore, we investigated the effects of porphyra 334 on UPM-induced AhR signaling by analyzing AhR nuclear translocation, cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) expression, and XRE-luciferase activity.…”

“…The HaCaT cells were divided into the following six groups: Control, OGD/R, OGD/R+NAC (10 mM NAC was used during the reoxygenation process), OGD/R+I (10 µM ifenprodil was used during the reoxygenation process), OGD/R+N (200 µM NMDA was used during the reoxygenation process), and OGD/R+N+I (200 µM NMDA and 10 µM ifenprodil were used during the reoxygenation process). Dosages were determined based on those previously reported [13,[20][21][22][23].…”
