Abstract:Antiochos Hierax was the second son of the Seleucid king Antiochos II Theos and his wife Laodike, and brother of Seleukos II Kallinikos. During the Third Syrian War (246–241
bce
), Antiochos rebelled from his brother (the so‐called “War of Brothers”) and established an independent sway over Asia Minor. However, his rule was too weak to prevent the expansionist policy of Attalos I of Pergamon. Finally, Hierax had to flee and was slain in Thrace (226
bce
).
